Overview

On behalf of Fastec Racing, Sold Out Motorcycles proudly presents The ‘Frankentana’; their famous custom built GSX1400 1982* Suzuki Katana.

The Frankentana was built in collaboration with a long-time Fastec client who has loved and owned Katana’s right the way back to the 80’s, they came to Fastec wanting a Katana build to end all Katana builds, something that stood out for all the right reasons but retained the classic Katana feel – it was made clear that no expense or detail was to be spared.

Starting out with two donor bikes, a Katana & GSX1400; the Katana was stripped to its bare frame which was then bead blasted. The subframe has been modified to fit an M.R. Racing Carbon Tailpiece. The stock forks have been swapped for a set of Showa Forks from a Triumph Thruxton R as were the wheels (the rear of which has been mated to the GSX1400 Swingarm) and to ensure minimal flex the frame has been braced. The bodywork has been raised 12mm to clear the taller GSX1400cc Engine, and the fuel tank has been heavily modified to clear the cam position sensor. The fuel pump has been mounted in the tank on a machined base plate with a modified stock GSX1400 fuel sender. The GSX engine cases have been machined with the Katana Logo and sprayed satin black paint. The Thruxton front forks have been mounted into a set of Fastec Machined Yokes, with Custom Risers & a CNC Clock Binnacle which housed the stock GSX1400 gauges. A set of drag bars have been added, complemented by Aprilia RSV Mille Brake and Clutch Controls. A Custom Exhaust System was fabricated in-house, keeping the exhaust close to frame for a neater look. The GSX1400 Swingarm has modified top & bottom shock mounts to house the Ohlins shocks, again donated by the Triumph Thruxton R and Machined and Integrated Swingarms Bobbin Mounts were also added. The build is completed with a stunning paint job by Pro Kustom – The grey base colour was complemented with subtle airbrushing to give a shaded effect before the Katana logos were added, followed by the clear coat.
