Great value retro starter classic, enjoy as is, or as a fantastic platform for further customisation. This model has the more sporty and great looking 4 into 1 exhaust and shares much of its DNA with the earlier CB 500 four models. Honda slotted the 550 four nicely in between the 750 and 400 four. It’s similar in size and road presence to the 750, but slightly more agile. The SOHC engine revs freely and the bike is great fun to ride on A and B roads as well as nipping effortlessly through city traffic. The bike is largely stock (frame not chopped) with some gentle custom touches, such as the all black wheels and down pipes, lake blue paint, YSS shocks, bar end mirrors and custom stainless grab rail.
I’ve owned the bike since 2021 and I have totally stripped it to have the frame and swing arm freshly powder coated. The engine is in good order and has had a thorough service, including valve clearances, cam chain adjustment and new clutchplates. I always do an annual oil and filter change, regardless of mileage, before winter layup.
Carbs stripped, ultrasonically cleaned and rebuilt with new seals, jets and needles.
Ignition system Refreshed with new ignition coils, leads and caps. Points and condensers renewed.
Electrics tested for resistance and voltage, fuse box upgraded to blade fuses, new Motobatt AGM battery fitted.
Brakes New brake master cylinder, piston and seal. Braided front brake lines.
suspension Front forks serviced with new seals and oil, YSS shocks fitted to rear. Avon tyres.
The bike was back on the road in summer 2022 and I’ve done aprox 1300 dry miles in that time and it’s been very reliable and enjoyable. I have all the receipts for parts etc and as you can imagine I have considerably more invested in the bike than I am asking. But I’ve had my fun with this one and need to finance my next project, so its time to let it go to a new owner.
